  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 10 drops of red food coloring or 1/4 tsp of coloring gel
  • 10 drops of blue food coloring or 1/4 tsp of coloring gel
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, plus more if needed

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and mix well.
  2. Sift in flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until a thick dough forms. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Divide chilled dough into three portions; color one red, one blue, and leave the third plain. Knead each portion until colors are evenly mixed.
  5. Roll small balls combining all three colors and coat each ball in powdered sugar before placing on the baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 12-14 minutes until tops crack but centers remain soft. Cool on wire racks.
