Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Shape into four patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook onions and mushrooms until softened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Add beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Bring to a simmer and return the patties to cook through (about 10 minutes).
  5. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry; add to gravy to thicken for an additional minute.
  6. Season with salt and pepper before serving.
