  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Assorted vegetables (onion, bell pepper)

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the beef against the grain.
  2. Mix cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add egg and water; whisk until smooth.
  3. Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Coat beef strips in the batter and fry until golden brown (3-4 minutes). Drain on paper towels.
  4. In the same wok, sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper for about 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar; simmer for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the crispy beef to the sauce mixture; toss gently to coat and stir-fry for an additional 2–3 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
